Our Mission

The Harlem Literacy Project empowers families in New York City’s Harlem Community by fostering  early childhood literacy  through strategic partnerships and accessible resources.

Our Work

We serve families and children in Harlem, working closely with schools, Pre-K centers, and community organizations to provide literacy coaching and resources.

Family Partners

We partner with families in Harlem District 3, 4 and 5, to provide reading intervention and prevention services through our various reading programs.

School Partners

We partner with schools throughout New York City to offer high impact Family and In-Class Student Workshops around literacy to help strengthen school communities.

Community Partners

We partner with various community organizations to function as strategic assets to help further serve school communities with their internal goals.

What makes our work unique?

Early Literacy Focus

We use the Science of Reading to guide our programs, focusing on evidence-based strategies that build strong foundational skills for learners as  young as Pre-K.

Parent Engagement

Our programs involve parents and caregivers, equipping them with practical tools to create literacy-rich environments at home.

Community Partnerships

We collaborate with schools, pre-K centers, libraries, and community organizations to create a network of literacy support across Harlem.

Personalized Coaching

Each child receives one-to-one literacy coaching tailored to their unique needs, blending foundational skills with social-emotional encouragement.
